[ Winter Field Day ]

Field Day is a day of Ham radio fun, learning and emergency prepping. Amateur Radio Stations from all over will be making contacts and logging them in an effort to see who can talk to more people and accrue the most points.

Even more important than the contest, field day is great practice for when an event occurs that may render your cell phone or normal means of communication inoperable. Everyone is invited to join us and learn about ham radio and emergency communication.

When: January 28th 2017 / 10am-5pm

Where: 8630 Sparta Pike Watertown, Tn 37184

Please leave a comment if you have any questions or if you would like to participate. EVERYONE is welcome to come by.

See below excerpt and rules for the contest from the “Winter Field Day Association ”

  Winter Field Day Association

Winter Field Day Association (WFDA) is a dedicated group of Amateur Radio Operators who believe that emergency communications in a winter environment is just as important as the preparations and practice that is done each summer but with some additional unique operational concerns.

We believe as do those entities of ARRL Organizations like ARES & RACES that maintaining your operational skills should not be limited to fair weather scenarios. The addition of a Winter Field Day will enhance those already important skills of those that who generously volunteer their time and equipment to these organizations. This is why WFDA is open to all licensed amateur radio operators worldwide.

Disasters are unpredictable by nature and can strike when you least expect them. WFDA’s goal is to help enhance your skills and ready you for all environmental conditions found in the US and Canada during the spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Preparedness is the key to a professional and timely response during any event and this is what local and state authorities are expecting when they reach out to the emergency service groups that offer their services.

If you are serious about emergency communications as we are; we welcome you to join us for our yearly event. We are sure that you will find this event a pleasant change and challenge to that of a normal summer time field day.

14th Annual “Santa Net”

That time of year is once again approaching and Christmas Eve Santa and a cast of characters will be making their way across the night skies. This year the 14th Annual Santa Net will be running across America. Santa will be answering QSO’s from the Echolink system (Node Number 258417 – Franklin Tennessee). If you happen to be in the Middle Tennessee area, the Santa Net will be on the 145.21 (PL 173.8) system of linked repeaters.
The net will be at 7:00 PM and last as long as traffic holds. Net Control will begin calling for QSO’s with Santa after 7:15 PM CST. Please be considerate. Santa can not take everybody’s QSO at 7:15 so please if you can wait until a little later in the evening please do so…. Santa will appreciate it…. It is a busy night for him after all. Spread the word.
Santa will again be accepting special information about the younger listeners to the Santa.
Please forward any special information about your special little one to: Please put “Elf Report” in the Subject Line.
 Name (And if the name is unusual a phonetic spelling along with it would be helpful)
 Boy or Girl (Santa got dinged one year with the name Shelby thinking it was a boy!)
 A general location or street (Specific address is not needed)
 The name of a special present that Santa will be packing just for them.
 Any other tid-bits that Santa should know about the individual child that would make the QSO with Santa special for them.
 And of course, your elf’s name.
All hams are always welcome to join in the fun with any and all reports of Santa sightings and mysterious happenings.
Hams should take the opportunity to let any friends that are scanner owners know about the net and the fun of ham radio. Bruce has made honorable mentions for children of scanner owners in the past and is happy to do so again. Just send the above information via email.
I know Christmas Eve is a busy time in many homes but please try to tune in. This has always been fun in the past and I hope to make it a fun and special night again this year.20161217_181421
